YouTube Music Finally Adds Sonos Speaker Integration
YouTube Music is finally available on Sonos speakers through the Sonos app.
Anyone with a YouTube Music Premium or YouTube Premium subscription can now play their songs, albums, and playlists on a Sonos smart speaker.
YouTube Music offers several different selections of curated music for Sonos speakers, too. The Recommended list gives suggestions based on the listener’s favorite tracks. It also offers up YouTube’s collection of mood-oriented playlists for listening.
New Releases features the newest and hottest tracks that have been tailored to the listener’s preferences. The app also features a new Artist on the Rise every week with new songs and albums.
YouTube’s Top Charts were added earlier this month, with a global focus. The service also tailors a custom playlist for what’s trending in your local country, too.
The ‘Your Mixtape’ playlist provides a constantly updating and a personalized list of artists that YouTube’s algorithms think you’ll love.
Sonos owners can open the Sonos Controller app and add YouTube Music to get started. You’ll find the option under the ‘Add Music Services’ section. Just remember you’ll need to be a YouTube premium subscriber to use the feature.
As a relatively late (or confused) premium entrant, YouTube has been working to pare up its music listening experience to competitors like Spotify and Apple Music.
The company launched the dedicated YouTube Music app last year to put a focus on music videos and its premium, ad-free subscription service.
Similarly, Sonos is trying to make itself a stand-out in the crowded smart speaker market. Amazon and Google dominate the bulk of this ever-growing category, thanks to their focus on integrations with several different music streaming services.
Sonos has traditionally been a home-oriented brand, but the company is looking to branch out into the out-of-home market in 2019. Sonos CEO Patrick Spence has confirmed the company has several out-of-home devices planned in its 3-year device roadmap.
